We are thrilled to welcome the Java community to the 183rd JUG Saxony Meetup at our office in Jena! As a long-standing sustaining member of Java User Group Saxony, Xceptance is hosting this exciting evening focused on modern software architecture and pragmatic quality reviews.

(Please note: The presentation will be held in German.)

Talk: Evaluating Software Architecture in the Team on Your Own – With LASR in an Afternoon

Architecture reviews make it possible to identify weaknesses and risks in software solutions early, validate architectural decisions, and evaluate targeted improvement measures. While traditional analysis methods in this field are solid, they often come across as overly academic, heavyweight, and almost ceremonial in fast-paced software projects.

In this interactive talk, Stefan Zörner introduces LASR (Lightweight Approach for Software Reviews), a pragmatic and lightweight methodology. Teams can immediately apply LASR to review their software systems independently without external consultants and achieve actionable, presentable findings in just a few hours. The approach captures the essence of established evaluation methods and provides a clear workflow through a review, including optional deep-dive areas for higher confidence.

Key Takeaways:

  • What software architecture reviews are, their triggers, and common approaches
  • Challenges that traditional evaluation methods bring to practice
  • What a lightweight review looks like in concrete steps
  • How to independently and effectively conduct such reviews within your own team
